We all know fruits and veggies are good for a growing belly, but how much do pregnant women need, and just what is a serving size? One of the founders of eating for you (and baby too), Ellen Burggraf says, "Counting grams of this and counting grams of that and trying to figure out what all that meant and incorporating it into my diet made me really nervous."
It's a good thing her sister Maggie is a registered dietitian. They teamed up to start eating for you and baby too. They gave me a complete nutrition evaluation. I kept a three day food journal, and then Maggie showed me where I was doing well and where I needed to improve. "Each woman has a different structure and may have a different health background, different environment," says Maggie McHugh, "so by actually sitting down with a registered dietitian they can actually have something custom made for them."
I learned I wasn't getting enough omega three fatty acids. It's important for the baby's eye and nerve development. And, it's something you can get by adding ground up flax seeds to your yogart or cereal. I also learned it's good to take your pre-natal vitamin with orange juice. Vitamin C helps with absorption. These are tidbits you can find in their e-mail newsletters. Burggraf says knowing the latest nutrition info could improve your chances for a healthier pregnancy and a thriving newborn.
